WIP "Wednesday"

I feel like I am working on a bunch of things, I just don't have pictures of most of them.  I snapped a couple of quick pictures with my phone while I was working on the layout for this mini quilt I am working on (excuse the poor quality photos).

So I adore, like everyone else, the Polaroid quilt blocks that have been popular lately and I wanted to make a mini quilt with them.  I really wanted to include a Polaroid camera as well though.  I searched and searched for a paper piecing pattern for a Polaroid camera and just couldn't find one, so I tried my hand at making one.  This was my very first attempt at creating a paper piecing pattern.  I used this free Quilt Assistant software to help turn an image of camera into the pattern.  I am pretty happy with this as a first attempt.  I may remake it though before it goes into the actual quilt.  We'll see.

WIP Wednesday

I have been busy finishing up this baby quilt for my cousin who is expecting a baby girl this weekend.
I have had a charm pack of each of Aneela Hoey's first three collections (Sherbert Pips, Little Apples, and A Walk In The Woods) for a while now.  I knew that I wanted to combine all three collections since I think they look so nice together.  I also knew that I wanted a pattern that would leave the charm squares largely intact, but something a little more interesting than just patchwork squares.  So this is what I came up with.

I am really pushing myself on the quilting.  One of the main reasons that I bought my new machine was to improve my quilting, so I better actually work at it.

Lately I have been totally inspired reading Angela Water's blog and her book.  All three of the quilting designs I am using in this quilt come from her book.

Furry Friday

Today's Furry Friday post is brought to you by Munchkles!  Munchkles recently gave us a little scare and had to spend quite a while at the vet.  But she's back at home with us and doing great.
Munchkles likes hanging out with me in the sewing room.  And most days she is pretty good about not messing with my stuff.  But in this particular day she decided to try and eat my fabric.  Not just scraps either she was going for the yardage.

WIP Wednesday

Today I am sharing my Low Volume quilt that I am in the process of quilting.  I loved piecing this top, it was fast, it was carefree, it was liberating.  No worrying about matching points or colors. Just cut, sew, go. Also, this is the very first quilt that I am sewing just for me.  I make a lot of quilts for others but I still don't have quilt that I get to snuggle under.

I started out with wonky nine patches. Then decided a little more size/shape variation was needed and threw in some wonky four patches and 3 patches(? Don't think that's the right name for it but we'll go with it).

I am doing pebble quilting for the first time.  I LOVE the texture it adds to the quilt, but I am not loving how much more time it is taking to quilt.  This one is going to have to wait a bit while I finish up more pressing projects.  Like my Modernista swap items.

Other works in progress:
Modernista swap
Mailing out my fabric for The 99 Bee!
Mod Mosaic July blocks
Swoon quilt
Backyard Baby Quilt
Aneela Hoey Baby Girl Quilt

Goals to get me started

I've tried this blogging thing before and have really been able to stick with it.  but I have been creating a lot lately and feel like I have something to contribute to the quilting/blogging community.  I have been so inspired by reading other blogs and now I want to get more involved.

So to get myself motivated and hold myself accountable I am starting with a fresh brand new blog ( you can read some of my earlier blog posts at zipstarboogiequilts.blogspot.com) and I am setting some goals.
1)So a popular feature on many of the blogs I read is WIP Wednesday.  My first goal is to post a work in progress each Wednesday.
2)Another favorite feature is Furry Friday on Kate Spain's blog . I love talking about and sharing pictures of my animals and Since I have six cats and a dog, there is no shortage of cuteness.  You may be saying, "but that's not quilt related" To which I would answer, "I don't care, I am doing it anyways." Plus, since cats tend to gravitate towards fabric and thread there will plenty of quilty cat pictures.
3) And the final goal I am going to set right now may be the loftiest of them all: I am going to create and post a tutorial by the end of August.

So there they are.  Now you all can help hold me accountable.  I will be back tomorrow with my first WIP Wednesday.
